So I wrote a post the other day talking about the fact that since I’m an American in Europe, I should be an American that finally gets to drive a Euro sports car.
It started out with me looking for an Audi Coupe Quattro. I found some. Not bad pricing. Not bad on the kilometers. But I just didn’t have the money yet. I still don’t. But I’d like to be able to find out what I want so that when I do have the money, I can go get it. After I looked at the Audi’s, I started looking at Lancia’s, Peugeot’s, hell, even Mini’s. But then I found the Ford Escort RS Turbo, and I really like it. It’s also importable because it’s older than 25 (or will be when I leave here). But then I started looking at everything that

had to offer in the 25 year old and older crowd. I started noticing things like

. It's a Porsche 944 with low kilometers, and pretty cheap (or so I think, this is where I need you). Thing is, I don't know a lot about cars other than the fact that I love them. I know enough to know what to look for when buying a used Ford or Chevy, but that's about it. So, Oppo, is the 944 worth it for 4,900 euros? Is this price insane? Is it cheap? I have no idea.

That price is slightly high for an 86 basic 944. Convert to US dollars, it’s about 6000$, correct? You can get 944s in just as good, if not better shape for less back in the states.
You should try to find something that isn’t sold here at all. Like an odd hot hatch or like an old Ford Capri coupe.

That's what I want to do. That's why I, for some reason, really like the Ford Escort RS Turbo. Wasn't sold in the states but I would be able to get parts for it easily.

Here are the two Escorts I’ve found:
Ford Escort RS Turbo - Here
Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet -

I like the white one more, mpstly because I'm not a fan of convertibles

Dat turbo! I’d take a good look at it. For a 25+ year old car, you actually would probably want it to have 75-125k miles on it. It means the car is being driven and maintained. The XR3 is an old cabriolet which means the roof leaks. So I’d pass immediately but that’s me.

Yea, I've never been a big fan of cabriolet's but it still looks nice. I really want the RS Turbo though and I have no idea why?!?

Because it is a good idea. GO! DO IT! DOOOOOO EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

The differences between US and Euro 944s aren’t huge. The Euro model has smaller and nicer-looking bumpers, and has a bit more power thanks to higher compression. Beyond that, I don’t think there are really any major differences. You can buy a rough 944 Turbo here for not much more than what they’re asking, or a really nice non-turbo. I’d pass and try for something euro-only. When you return to the States and import it, I’m sure you can find someone who will swap you a ride in their 944 for a ride in your sweet Euro whip, too.

Damn. Now I need to find a quick and mostly legal way to get 5k. And the wife's approval. That'd be nice too. Gotta sell my Renault first too!

Do the Escorts harbor a Cosworth developed engine? (sorry, kinda new to the older hot hatch realm)

I know the Sierra of the time did have a Cosworth developed engine. I thought the Escort RS Turbo did but I may be wrong. Time to do some research on that!
Edit:
Apparently there was a Ford Escort RS Cosworth and a Ford Escort RS Turbo. I’m assuming the Cosworth version is probably worth more than the Turbo model and therefore, out of my price range.
